Morris Garages or MG cars as it’s known, has
had a storied and wild history. Founded in 1924, the company has undergone
multiple ownership changes over the years. Currently, it is owned by Chinese
state owned, SAIC Motor.
MG was renowned for making some of the best
two-seater sports cars during the 50s and 60s. After faltering over the ensuing
decades, the brand has had a revival of sorts under the new ownership, making
SUVs and electric vehicles that are among the best in their segments. Today we
take a look at the 5 best MG cars ever.

Hector
While the MG Hector is a very recent model
from MG, it has become a very important one, especially in markets like India.
When it arrived in 2019, the Hector shook up the compact SUV segment in the
country. Aggressive pricing, attractive styling, and efficient powertrain made
it an instant hit amongst Indian consumers.
The MG Hector arrived with some of the best
features in the compact SUV segment like a 10.4-inch iSmart infotainment
system, inbuilt internet connectivity, powered front seats, panoramic sunroof,
electric tailgate and a 360-degree camera.
Currently, the MG Hector is priced between Rs
14.43 lakh - Rs 20.36 lakh. Furthermore, a new Hector is getting launched in
2023. If you’re looking to buy one, wait a couple of months for the updated
model to arrive. You can read all about the 2023 Hector at CarLelo.com

ZS EV
The MG ZS EV was a smart way by the new
management to reinvent themselves. Crossovers and EVs are two of the fastest
growing segments in the world, and the MG ZS is both of them.
For 2022, it received a comprehensive update.
The electric SUV now has a closed off grille, new bumpers, and sleeker LED
headlights. Moving to the interior, there’s a new 10.1-inch touchscreen
infotainment screen, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless charging,
panoramic sunroof, and more.
The 2022 MG ZS EV now gets a 50.3 kWh battery
pack, which increases the range to 461 kms from previous 419 kms. Power is
increased to 176 bhp and 280 Nm of peak power and torque figures.
Prices for the MG ZS EV range from Rs 22.58
lakh - Rs 26.60 lakh. You can get further details about the MG ZS EV at

MG3
The MG3 was among the first cars to arrive in
the global market after the ownership change. Essentially a rebadged Rover
Streetwise, the first gen MG3 featured a peppy engine, cosmetic personalisation,
and attractive pricing that was aimed towards the younger demographic.
The current model is still one of the best VFM
superminis you can buy today, making it a great choice for the first-time
buyer.
MG
Metro 6R4
MG built only 205 units of the Metro 6R4 as a
homologation special to qualify for the World Rally Championship homologations.
It was part of the famous Group-B era, competing with the likes of the Peugeot
205 T16, Ford RS200, Lancia Delta S4, and the Audi Quattro Sport. While all of
them used turbocharged engines, MG chose to take a different approach with a
big N/A V6. Turbos of that era had many shortcomings, especially turbo lag,
which MG wanted to go round by going naturally aspirated.
But using a non-turbo engine meant the 6R4
wasn’t as competitive as its rivals. Even though it didn’t win any
championships, the 6R4 was quick and highly desirable, especially now as prices
skyrocket.
MG
SV/SV-R
MG under the previous ownership was faltering
badly when they decided to make the SV and SV-R. Even though many argued it wasn’t
something that the company needed at the time, both cars became cult icons and
are a favorite among enthusiasts.
The SV and SV-E features a full carbon fiber
body underpinned by an Italian-sourced chassis. Powertrain duties are handled
by a 4.6-litre V8 borrowed from the Ford Mustang.
Although it was more a grand tourer with its
soft suspension and long gearing, the SV is still a machine with a 0-100 kmph
time of just 4.9 seconds.
