If you are planning to buy a new car for around Rs 50 lakh, then you have so many new options coming to India that it can get a bit confusing. In this price range, there are multiple body styles including SUVs and sedans as well as multiple powertrain options such as ICE (Internal Combustion Engine), strong-hybrid, and pure electric. Multiple automakers have a new launch planned for 2023, but which one is the best choice for you? Today, we take a look at a few of the ‘Top Upcoming Cars Under Rs 50 Lakh in India’ to help you make an informed decision.  


Kia Seltos Facelift


One of the most awaited upcoming cars in India, the updated Kia Seltos is slated for a launch by mid-2023. The facelifted SUV will get a redesigned front end with a new grille, headlights and LED DRLs. The side profile will remain similar to the outgoing model while the rear tailgate will provide a new LED light bar spanning the width of the vehicle.


The 2023 Seltos Facelift is expected to feature an updated equipment list consisting of a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment display with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, ambient lighting, and more. The SUV will also offer ADAS-Tech like Autonomous Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Avoidance, and Lane Departure Warning. 


The company will introduce a new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol motor capable of delivering a power output of 160 bhp with 253 Nm of peak torque. Other powertrain options will include a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel. Transmission options here will include a 6-speed manual, 6-speed iMT, a 6-speed torque converter automatic, and a CVT automatic gearbox. 


Jeep Renegade


The Renegade is the smallest SUV that Jeep makes globally. In 2022, it received a facelift with the SUV getting revised headlights and a new front grille, larger bumper, updated taillights and faux skid plate. The automaker may launch this model in India by late 2023.


Moving inside, the Renegade offers an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, auto climate control, sunroof, ambient lighting, wireless charging, ventilated front seats, and more.


Globally, Jeep offers a 1.3-litre flex-fuel turbocharged motor with the subcompact SUV. The engine is capable of producing 185 bhp with 270 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed automatic or a 9-speed automatic gearbox. 


Hyundai Ioniq 6


Hyundai is planning to launch the Ioniq 6 in India during the 2023 festive period. The electric sedan features a futuristic design with a curved nose, Parametric pixel LED headlights, sloping roofline, and a boat-tail rear end. The Ioniq 6 is currently one of the most aerodynamic cars on sale with a drag coefficient of 0.21.


Inside, the electric vehicle comes packed with features like twin 12.3-inch displays for the infotainment system and instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, auto climate control and more.


Currently the car is offered with 2 battery pack options; 53 kWh and 77 kWh globally. The former has a claimed electric range of 429 kms while the latter provides 614 kms range. Both single- and dual-motor variants are available. The electric sedan also supports 350 kW DC fast charging that juices up the battery from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes.


Nissan X-Trail


Nissan has confirmed that the 4th-Generation X-Trail is slated to launch in India by late 2023. The full-size SUV will get a split-headlight setup and sculpted bonnet up front while the side profile would feature flared wheel arches, roof rails, and a strong character line. Towards the rear, you will notice a roof spoiler, wraparound LED tail lights, and an aluminium bash plate.


Being a premium SUV, the X-Trail will come with all the bells and whistles you expect. It is expected to provide a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, powered and ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, and more.


Nissan is likely to offer the X-Trail in India with its e-Power strong-hybrid powertrain. The 1.5-litre Atkinson Cycle petrol engine along with an electric motor produce a combined power output of 202 bhp with 300 Nm of peak torque in the 2WD variants. As for the AWD trims, the motor pumps out 213 bhp and 525 Nm torque. A 6-speed torque converter automatic will be the only transmission option available with the SUV.
