Upcoming MG Cars in India

MG Motors has had a successful run in India so far with the likes of the Hector and the Gloster. The ZS EV is among the best-selling EVs in India due to its range, features and competitive pricing. Now, the automaker plans to double down its presence in the Indian market, with a slew of launches in the pipeline. Today we look at three MG cars that are slated to launch in the next year.

 MG Hector 2022

MG entered the Indian market with the Hector. It has proven to be a sales success, making sure the brand started off on a strong note. Now, MG is planning to launch the updated Hector around the end of 2022. The SUV will feature a redesigned front end that features a new front grille. The interior is set to be updated as well, featuring a new 14-inch infotainment system that’s the largest in the segment and a fully digital instrument console.

Mechanically, the new MG Hector is expected to offer the same powertrain options. It will continue with its FCA-sourced 2.0-litre diesel engine which churns out 163 bhp and 350 Nm of peak power and torque. The 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine makes max power and torque figures of 140 bhp and 250 Nm respectively. The petrol engine can also be had with mild-hybrid tech for start/stop functionality and additional torque boost. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard while the turbo-petrol variants also get a DCT gearbox.

 MG Marvel X

The Marvel X is a Tata Harrier-sized electric SUV that MG claims is the first mass-production model that comes with level 3 autonomous driving capabilities. First showcased at the 2020 Indian Auto Expo, reports suggest that MG is planning to launch the Marvel X in India around April 2023.

The MG Marvel X comes with a 52.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that sends power to three electric motors, making it an all-wheel-drive. Combined, the motors churn out around 300 bhp and 665 Nm of peak power and torque figures, respectively. The Marvel X can be charged from 0-80 percent in just 40 minutes using a DC charger. Like ZS EV, the Marvel X also features a KERS system that charges the battery when decelerating and braking.

Mg Baojun 510

The Baojun 510 is a compact SUV that will compete with the likes of the Tata Nexon and the Maruti Brezza. The 510 shares some design elements with the bigger Hector like the split headlamp assembly and grille. Compared to the Hector though, the 510 looks smaller and has a more aggressive profile.

Inside, the Baojun 510 will come with features that we expect an MG to have, a large touchscreen infotainment system, inbuilt internet connectivity and soft-touch surface areas. The compact SUV is reported to be launched around the start of 2023.
